Scripted stuff is usually synchronized, meaning it has more delay, doesn't work in paused mode, hangs if network hangs, etc.
There are ways to have stuff scripted and still non-sync functions (e.g. the script defines the menu in advance and leaves some callbacks as non-synced, etc.). That's relatively complicated to implement though.
