Stronger edges are good because they help a lot in discriminating the material borders. So I would vote for increasing it to the value of the second (except for ore).

I also liked how it was done e.g. in Worms: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/08/Worms_World_Party_screenshot.png There they explicitely had borders in vastly different color.
