well im new to this and i like the way this version of clonk looks from the screen shots, so i downloaded it. now what? :/

Well, you want to make sure you have downloaded the right thing. If you have a 32-bit (86x) computer, then you want the 32-bit development snapshot. If you have a 64-bit computer (64x) then you'll want the 64-bit development snapshot.

Then when you have downloaded the zip file, you can extract the openclonk folder to your computer. Then you can run the Clonk.exe to play the game.

okay i did all that and when i click on clonk in the folder (it has a crest with a spade and gun) it opens then closes right away.

What does the Clonk.log file say?

It will be in *myuser*/AppData/Roaming/OpenClonk or somesuch.

Yes, good. Looks like you will need new drivers for your video card. Find out what Model your video card is (either by looking at the physical card or in device manager), and search for a driver for it in Google. Make sure you're getting a driver from an official source (ie: nvidia or ati if you use these brands).
