i think it was a serius discussion and should be treated such way.
I made the offer to implement a OGL Landscape System that is accelerated by hardware and i will see when i get time to write it

> btw. I think it doesnt really belongs into the garbage dumb... it was a more or less serious discussion.

Not when it was moved. Your points were refuted, yet the discussion still didn't stop. I'll repeat the arguments one more time, but after that enough is enough.

> about half graphiccode to debug

Doesn't matter, if somebody wants to spend their time doing Windows support one can tell them that they are wasting their time, but cannot hinder them. We certainly cannot make them do other work for Clonk, so killing Direct3d support won't help making Clonk better.

> Less non-OpenSource-Libs are used.

Wrong, Wine works just fine. And anyway, the other windows libraries are a far, far bigger problem. For example, the recent update problems forcing every Macosx and Linux user of Clonk Rage to reinstall Clonk were caused by a fix to a problem with windows' creat function.

Yeah, and this should be changed. Not exactly zooming instead readrawing the landscape at the screen would be better.

I did an seamless Acid texture. Maybe the style doesn't fit to clonk, I'll just post it.

I edited the current lava and water textures. They need to be smoother and not so dirty in my opinion. Any comments?

The lava needs to be a little more blurrier to look liquid.

Actually I like the one from Nachtfalter very much. But his is very repetitive and not of good quality. With OpenClonk, we don't need to stick to one color. We have 24bit so the lava could be glowingly reddish too etc. And: Much more contrast!

Awesome. Do you mind asking him if he can put it under CC-by for our project?

MimmoO said the following:

Dear DanHeffer-Stock,

We, that is - a team of developers and me, would like to use your Ice-stock-series as texture for a video game we are developing, it is called "OpenClonk" and is an open source project.
I would like to ask you to allow us use of the images under the license Creative Commons (CC-BY) or Creative Commons Share Alike (CC-BY-SA) license.
We would modify the textures to be tileable, and eventually tweak colors a bit.

Greetings, MimmoO

i think this means "yes"

But he didn't really say which license should be used.

Hm. Corals and marble?

Ocean/lakes seem to be often devoid of valuables. A rare material that occurs in water would make an interesting challenge to obtain.

A professor of my university released a lot of self-photographed textures under the CC license. It's normal fotos and close up shots of stuff mixed, I guess some of it could be used as (material-)textures or reference: https://www.icloud.com/photostream/de-de/#A45oqs3qmR1wl
Parent - By Clonkonaut [de] Date 2012-09-25 14:00
It's CC BY NC. We don't use that one.

Hey, perhaps you could tell your professor that with CC BY NC, not one open source project may use his work. Surely this was not his intention as NC is next to "all rights reserved", CC BY SA would be o.k. for open source.

I asked him, here's his response: "no problem: you can ask me about any other use."
I'm not exactly sure what he means by that, but I guess if we need it we can have it under the right license.

Is there any reason why that reminds me of scotland? These roof texture and the tree I saw them in Aberdeen. Were they made in scotland?

I'm pretty sure they were all done around Vienna in Austria.

That's quite interesting. Some photos look quite similar to mine and are taken at the end of world. Yay! I saw two places by visiting one!

I suggest tweaking an iron ore (hematite) texture a bit so it would look more like a real ore (see here, here and here). Thus it will be even more distinguishable on a landscape.

You should take a look at the repository from time to time. The ore texture we are currently using is this one: http://forum.openclonk.org/image_show.pl?aid=21

Wel... um... I surely should... Anyway, that leaves the question open.
