How is the animation? Like of a steam train? ... cause the lever and the box it is coming out looks a little bit small for it to be physically possible.

The piston and the box are fine. They just have to be the double radius of the attachment position of the connection rod. The connection rod is what is to short here. Physically, it just has to be a little longer than the radius. To minimize friction energy loss and damage, it's longer than twice that radius sometimes even three times it.
