Currently at school with lots of time. Any suggestions on design other than what's below?

Nice. But note we might want an animation for hoisting it. I'm not sure how you'd do that with this one.

Also just for tradition's sake we might want to have it blow with the wind. Kind of optional though - we could just have something else indicate the wind.

Currently it's about the same size as a clonk. I could make it about 2.5x taller, and make the horizontal section raise via ropes pulled at the base. Wouldn't require much editing.

How would it work? The rope is connected to the pin?

The 'node' which the ropes suspending the flag-bar connects to would be connected directly to the rope which runs down the base of the flagpole. As clonkonaut pointed it, it should be taut however. :I

Shouldn't the rope be taut(?) if it's keeping the flag up?

I do like it. As others pointed out yet, the rope needs to be taut, and there should be some mechanism so that the flag can actually be raised. Also, the rope is probably connected too far to the bottom end - if you only put a few centimeters of the pole in the ground, it wouldnt be very stable. Other than that, the flag itself looks pretty cool, I imagine it looks even better animated, waving in the wind.
