I didn't get trapped. I liked hacking down bushes, just as I liked hacking down Clonks. Even if the behavior was quite pointless at that time, it was a great game experience. For me, a game should also be about finding out. If bushes are really important, there can be a tutorial for teaching you the "proper" way to handle them.
Also, the "proper" playing of the scenario was so straightforward, it was almost boring.
