Certainly a lot of good points and ideas here. I like the changes to the existing creatures; we'll need a lot of effort to script these behaviours though. For the flightless bird, something like Terrorvögel would be cool. For some reason I find the ape strange, but I do like the idea of it being able to throw objects as an attack.
