Granite being the dark stoney texture? Problem is that the texture is already very dark and has very strong normals at the borders, so the effect is overpowered. When I was playing around with parameters I confirmed that the shading was still applied (you can do before/after fairly easily using shader reloading in developer mode), but next to the existing structure the effect ends up very subtle.
