We discussed it before and the conclusion was that we indeed think it's a good idea but we had some quality-of-life features that we would have wanted to include before. Mainly splitscreen play (which used to work) and also controller support.
But most of the developers moved on to other projects a few years ago so there's currently not the necessary support to make it happen :(
