Hm, maybe dreaming a bit here, but we can actually consider doing automatic releases this way: For each commit that updates the version file the build server could build at least Windows and Linux, create an update from the previous version(s), create an installer, source tarball, maybe also a Linux binary tarball, tag the release... :)
