> because every new user want to show his friends his newest thunder-flint.

Well, a thunder flint supposedly has far less than one 1 MB filesize, so it's downloaded without further notice from the host.

If there's dewdicated servers running, people can always join those.

All we need is a better default filter, which shows only those games to newbies which they could actually join.

Instead of hiding the games you cant join, they should be highlighted as "Complain to the devs now that you cannot join this easily right now!"
If you know what I mean.

Hah, good one. But well, that might be an easy to do change. I guess it's on my "I could do this" - list.

>Hiding games

And friends searching for each others game?
->My friend isn't listed on the list....

So filtering is not the solution.
If i did that in CR no game will be listed anymore.

A lot of games have a big checkbox "[ ] only show games I can join"
Parent - By ST-DDT [de] Date 2012-01-17 14:07
Yes, but this checkbox was not mentioned before.
And all games i know (very few) have disabled this option by default.

How do we tell whether you can join a game? Should we start spamming pings around when loading the game list?
Parent - - By Zapper [de] Date 2012-01-17 17:07
The masterserver does that once every time a hosts opens a game
Parent - - By Sven2 [de] Date 2012-01-17 22:57
It's not that simple. E.g., when someone hosts a game on LAN, it would be joinable but may not be visible on the masterserver. We could always display games found via game discovery on top of all others (I think right now, they're at the bottom because game discovery runs after the masterserver check).

Also, I was thinking that if you don't have a large package used in one of the games, it could be marked as not joinable. The resource list is already in the game info, isn't it?
Parent - By PeterW [gb] Date 2012-01-17 23:11
Yes, should be possible.
Parent - By Caesar [de] Date 2012-01-17 23:18
The reason this wasn't done until now was just that someone feared the loading times when displaying the game list.

See Sven. It might not even be that bad an idea - pings are cheap and we could get an indicator of how fast the game might be out of it as well.

Doesn't the Steam/Source server browser do exactly that to all games in the list?
