Hi, im new to OpenClonk. What I miss in this forum is a place, where new people can introduce themself. I think its good to have a picture of the people you're "working" with (I dont mean a photo). So I start.

I'm tinu, 23 years old and live in Switzerland. I study medicine in Zürich, which takes most of my time.

I started playing Clonk when Clonk 4 was just new (don't know, when this was). After Clonk Planet I stopt playing, and some months ago I rediscovered it. I like the idea of free and opensource software, and so I want to participate in this project.

I can deal with 3d Studio Max (not yet with blender, but I think its easy to import/export), Photoshop and Illustrator. I dont have experience in programming games, so I think my role will be more to design and to think-tank.

Hope, people will follow my idea of personal introduction. Can any admin please move this thread to the right place and by chance make it sticky? thx

I'm Atomclonk, aka Ace and my reallife name is Mike.
I'm 14 Years old and live in Germany. I'm going to a "german high school" (Gymnasium).
I play Clonk since Clonk Planet, it's maybe 4-5 years ago. I were always a fan of this game, so Clonk inspired me to start programming and going deeper into the matter. Because I like the idea of a Clonk, designed by players, I want to be a part of this project and I'm trying to be as helpful as possible.

I know the C4Script language rather well and actually I'm studying C++.

Welcome, tinu!

Perhaps I can introduce myself too, even though I have been around in the community for quite a while now. I discovered Clonk since Clonk 4 and have been playing and scripting for the game since then. During the development of Clonk Endeavour in the Clonk team, after that been doing the Hazard Remake.

I am 23 years old and study computer science with the minor subject sociology in Hamburg, Germany. Right now, I am hanging out in Spain as I just completed my ERASMUS semester in Granada. I enjoy travelling and have been around the world a fair bit now - sometimes I write something (about my travels) in my blog on www.westnordost.de but recently not so much anymore.

I am administrator of the openclonk website. I committed myself to the organisation of the OpenClonk community in terms of creating a platform on which devs can share knowledge and ideas and creating the framework on whose base the development of OpenClonk can be organized. I involve myself in creating general concepts and helping out in scripting object systems - I like to create graphic effects, I think good (special) effects add great value to the game.

I consider myself as an expert in C4Script development, especially for object systems. I can program C++ but am not very deep in the engine's source code. I know some basics about blender and my GIMP and Paintshop skills are sufficient for 2D-graphics.

So, here's what might be of interest to you about me ;)

I'm 20 years old, living in Gelsenkirchen and studying computer science and media here.
I've been playing Clonk since Clonk 3 and started developing with clonk planet, later contributing to the GWE4 and Clonk Endeavour. I consider myself a good scripter and advanced cg artist. I made the concept, basic object systems and graphics for the Hazard Remake.

Regarding OpenClonk, I plan to contribute mostly concepts, objects and graphics.

well then i will introduce myself too.
i am 17 years old, living in Cuxhaven and i am studenton an vocational school . i stated with Clonk planet, only playing. Then i saw CE was alredy out and played it, of course.

i can handle with Cinema 4D verry good, but still not perfect. i also try my best at c4script, but mostly people say my script is "hax" or "o_O", but it works (after several hours of debugging...) :D. i also use Paint.net a lot, which is my favourite 2D-graphic-software.

i hope i can help CE with graphics and (sometimes a bit weird) ideas.

Good idea.

I am 21 years old, living in Han(n)over, Germany and I study law. My first Clonk was Clonk Planet (with GWE3 afaik) and I started scripting on GWE4. I contributed to CE and CR as a contractor of Redwolf Design.
The last project I participated was Hazard for CR (together with Newton, Matthias, Boni and Raven). I consider myself as a very good C4Script scripter. And thus I will contribute my scripting and my ideas to the openclonk project.
I am co-administrator of the openclonk website.

Okay, about me:
I am 18 years old (nearly 19 actually) and live in Berlin, Germany. I have still one year left to go to school and afterwards I'll propably study computer science.
I started playing and developing stuff for Clonk with Clonk Planet and joined RedWolf Design sometime with Clonk Rage.
I think I am a very good scripter and I know C++ quite well (even if I had no time/motivation to get into the Clonk source yet). Of course I would like to contribute stuff to OpenClonk as well. :)

My name is Armin, I am 22 years old and I am studying physics at the University of Karlsruhe (or KIT, if you want), Germany. For the next three months, I'm doing a research internship in the U.S. though.

Clonk-wise, I started with Clonk 4 as well (April 1998), and started developing with Clonk Planet in 2000. I'm engaged in C4Script and the C++ source code, mostly working on things that I have decided to be fun to do, and fixing the bugs introduced when doing so. Currently, I try to add realtime-rendering of 3D models to the engine (making good progress; need to wait for the internet becoming available at my apartment before pushing the branch, though).

I'm Ape and my real name is Lauri Niskanen. I started playing Clonk when Planet was the current release. I am 17 years old and I live in Finland.

I know how to code C/C++, Python, PHP, many Basic variations and I can quite easily learn a new language. I also know how to use GIMP and Blender pretty nicely. I use Linux and manage servers. I have made some scenarios, objects and materials to Clonk and I know the basic scripting.

I'm Florian (20), from originally Austria, now living in Dresden, Germany (some weeks ago in Berlin...). Currently I'm a Graphic Artist, basically advanced with Cinema4D and the Adobe Creative Suite. My job is to create some lowpoly stuff and maps for OC. But at the moment I'm in dark hole with my leisure, looking forward to start absolutely with OC about year-end or so. Oh, I'm started with Clonk Planet and developed misc. since GWE4.

I'm 15 years old (nearly 16), living in lower saxony (Germany). Ive started to play and develop clonk 3 years ago. Ive also learned then to get handled with gimp. 2 years ago I learned C++ and also started 3D modelling with Blender. Before some months I've learned to produce music with LMMS. Apart of my normal development activities I am actually working on an own homepage and trying to improve my Inkscape Skills.

I am interested in politics, science, japanese culture (<3 animes), electronical music and hiphop culture.

I'm Roman, 18, living in Switzerland too. I started with Clonk World (Clonk4 on CD) and developping since CE.
I'm most familiar with the dotNET-Framework and Python. I also know PHP. I "could" Code C/C++ (but too lazy to search for libraries since the dotNET-Framework has nearly everything). I'm currently in an apprenticeship as an IT-Specialist (or Computer Scientist). And of course, BASIC, because my calculator could be programmed with BASIC. Bit of Assembler (I need that for my Singletasking OS I'm working on).  Besides my apprenticeship I'm attending school so I can go studying computer science after my apprenticeship.

I'm a good scripter (not that good as the oldbies ;)) but I just can't create graphics.

Edit: And of course HTML,CSS & Co.

My name is Raoul. I live in The Netherlands. I'm 20 years old and have played Clonk 1 APE, Clonk 3, Clonk 4 and Clonk Planet. I've never made any material for Clonk myself but have been playing alot of the user generated content (from ccan.de) with my old friends. I was never really interested in making maps and graphics. I study mathematics at the university of Leiden now, and took a course in C++. I am now reading through all the header files of the engine to get a grasp on what is happening.

My real name is Charles, and I'm about a week from 17 since this post. I have been into Computer Graphics and Scripting since I was around 12. I got started in 3D with 'anim8or' and learned to use the program without reading any tutorials or documentation (I was pretty stupid back then). I also have had experience in Sprite-Work and was personally trained by an indie-game developer by the name 'Zethell'. I got into Clonk possibly 2 years ago with Clonk Rage, and I've lived in British Columbia, Canada my entire life.

Hi together, I'm B_E which is an acronym of my first name, Benedict, and my last name. I do live in germany, but I speak german and english fluently since I'm bilingual.
I'm currently 16 years old and I started Clonk around 2004 with Clonk Planet, and then directly Clonk Endeavour. I'm currently still at school, but I'll finish "Gymnasium" next year as one of the youngest in our school. I develop all kinds of applications and things, starting with PHP/HTML/CSS Websites, over smaller C++ Applications, Java-Applets and Clonk-Addons and I'm sure that there is still quite a bit of stuff to learn ;)
I also create smaller graphics/models if I'm bored and (very) occasionally I write and record MIDI-songs.
All in all I'm happy to be able to participate in OpenClonk! =)

Hi-a-dee ho!

I'm Peewee, computer science student.
I found out about Clonk ~4 years ago, but only played Planet and Endeavor because they were free.
More recently, I got a credit card, and was finally able to buy Rage.

I found out about OpenClonk some time last year (from clonk.de), but I wasn't interested.
I was reminded about this project yesterday, when I had a Clonk craving and Rage downloaded an update.
I went to check the website and saw that same news post, so here I am!

I'd like to help out in any way I can, and I'm sure having access to OpenClonk's source will help me in learning C++.

Currently, I experience with:
-Java (1.5 years)
-TI-BASIC (4 years) (for my graphing calculator)
-minimal experience in LUA, Perl, and Visual Basic 6

I've also beta-tested a few dozen games, and was an official alpha tester for a regrettably forgettable physics sandbox.

Im 27, from Berlin (germany)

I started to play clonk in like 1997 with clonk3.
Mainly with my brother and a friend of him.
Then when clonk 4 came out we was not able to play it because we only got a dos machine. Later then i  found clonk again and played Planet, and then ofc i enjoyed the online time in Net2, endeavour and Rage.

At first i thought, that open clonk cant be good, then i just tried it with a friend and i was really suprised about the cool control system here now, and how new, fast, dynamic and fresh the game is.
And so i registered here to see whats up, and bug you with my thoughts :D

Clonk wise I started playing Clonk 4 back in the Year 1999 and then Clonk Planet. Since 2001 then I haven't heard about clonk. Now since the OpenClonk follows a open source strategy Im very attracted to this Project.

Im currently the maintainer of the Launchpad site and ubuntu/debian packages of OpenClonk.

Hi all, I don't write too much here but I read everything you talk about. My name is Micha and I'm from Thalheim (Erzgebirge, Germany). This time I'm at school in Halle (Saale). I'm 18 years old and I started to playing Clonk in 1998 with Clonk 3 Radikal directly followed with Clonk 4.

I'm still playing and I played the game all this years. I'm not this good in developing, but I'm experienced in writing concepts and stuff like this.

First of all I like the idea of a opensource clonkgame really much, than I sea how you going to start with and to be honest, I really disagree with something here. But this doesn't matter after all, this time I'm in a "soso-feeling" about the project. Let's see what will happen into the future.

Hello! My nickname is Foaly, in Clonk Rage my name is currently Batman and it was Philip quite some time. I'm from Germany.
I play Clonk since Clonk Planet was freeware.
I created the Simple War Project for CR a long time ago, so i wouldn't say it shows what I'm capable of doing.

About this time next year, I will write my abitur.

I'm currently in a project called IrrlichtLime, which is a wrapper of the graphics engine Irrlicht and wraps it from C++ to C# (or .NET). I joined that project about one year ago.
I recently created a deviantArt page (here), where I post all my Blender stuff and my crappy drawings (because I want to learn drawing), but I don't have any comment on my profile yet :(

I work with Blender, GIMP, Inkscape and MyPaint.

I hope I can help a bit in the development of OpenClonk.

I am mastrolindo, Stefano in real life.

25 years old, italian, i have a master degree in software engineering and I am actually working as an IT consultant in Dusseldorf, Germany.

Before that I spent 9 months studying in Cork Ireland for Erasmus, and after 6 months working as an intern in Paris.

I know quite a lot of computer languages, java, c/c++, php, C#, windows and unix scripting, etc, and I have quite a good theoretical background also on graphics programming with DirectX or XNA.

I always love good opensource game developing communities, even if for time and other interests (I study/work all the time at pc, I try to avoid when I can to do that in my free time as well :)) I never managed to be an active "open developer".

I hope sometimes this will change, work right now is very busy and gf/friends take all the rest of time, but who knows?

I am a kind of perfectionist, so if I do a thing or I do it at 100%, or I don't do it. Unluckily right now I just cannot do 100% in OC, so I decided to stay aside.
Meanwhile I always lurk around the forum, checking for news and trying to follow the topics and what's discussed... maybe one day I will start contributing.

I started playing clonk when Clonk Endeavour was released. Always loved the game, but since I learnt to play it when i was a bit older than the majority of you and less attached to its traditions, I was always trying to bring new ideas and "little revolutions" on clonk design, at least on forums discussions. I have always see clonk as a game with a HUGE potential, never exploited completely for a variety of reasons, and I really hope that one day I will see in openclonk the things I have dreamt about it.  For this reason I really support this project :)

Hello, I'm also new to both Clonk and OpenClonk. Saw info about Clonk by chance in comments on Shacknews.com

I'm Michael, 25 years old and live in Austin, TX. I'm a producer and designer for an indie game studio and coordinator for the IGDA's Indie Games SIG and an open source devotee.

I can help with finding people, designing things, finding publishing/funding, quality assurance/testing, community management/growth, general management/production, and business/legal related stuff (to some extent).

I just found Clonk a few days ago and really like the concepts, so want to help out and bring it to a bigger audience!

Also interested in learning German language since I've participated with so many German open source teams and it is in my heritage (last name is Lübker )

My friend (Ringwaul/Charlie) is forcing me to introduce myself.

Hey, my name's Andrew, I'm 18 years old and I hate introducing myself. I've hated introducing myself since I was three, and I use this hateful introduction often. Through Charlie, I've known Clonk for about 2 years now starting with Clonk Rage and through my friend's involvement in the project, I've known about OC for more than a year. I like to test it and maybe contribute ideas but I cannot do anything related to game developing besides the theory behind it.

Myself, I'm currently in University and undergoing flight training to become a commercial pilot; Clonk is a hobby of mine.

Anyways, I look forward to seeing if I can provide some sort of aid to the project.

I am Chris, aka TheLinuxist. I'm playing Clonk since CP became Freeware. Since CR became available for Linux, there was no reason for me to keep using Windows, which didn't ever work well and/or fulfill my needs, so I changed to Linux entirely. I develop OpenSource Software since 2007 and I really apreciate your work, as it is a great addition to the open source scene.
I am 17 years old and started programming in the age of 11.
I live and work in Germany as an office clerk trainee, so there is not too much time for playing OC at the moment.

greetings,

my name is Matthias and i'm from Germany.

i started playing clonk not long ago with clonk endeavor. actually a friend of mine forced me into this game against my will but with time i fell in love with it. that happened in the moment when i discovered the editor... and what it was all able to do. since i'm experienced c++ programmer i had no problems with learning how to modify things... and over a year a the whole content i modded together with my friends grew to a really huge size basically rewriting lot of the concept of the original game. however we never uploaded our mod anywhere because it originally contained some work of other people (which was nearly completely rewritten in the end except for the original graphics).

and anyway without a tutorial probably most clonk players might have been unable find their way in our scenarios/mod. basically we made the game a cooperative only game-play in very challenging scenario settings that needed at least 50 hours of teamwork to complete. however game fun was always limited due to the fact that the games performance suffered considerably on large maps with lots of objects... the engine simply wasn't build for that.

so i was glad to see that clonk is still developed. and i am considering returning to modding this game again.
do you look for some helping hands?

A challenging scenario(?) with cooperative game-play sounds interesting. Because you mention 50+ hours to complete the scenario, my first thought was "7 keys". What is/was your mod about?

Edit: (And, welcome!)
Parent - - By Killtech [de] Date 2011-02-21 16:58 Edited 2011-02-21 21:06
hmm... to start i maybe include a picture of our settlement first -
it is a fragment of our 36 hours save game.

our games were very difficult settling scenarios where build up the economy was very challenging and the economy was largely extended. to provide the right challenge our scenarios contained all possible environmental hazards (of which many were added by us). e.g. apart from earthquakes, meteoroids, volcanoes, lightning the settlement in picture is above a large ocean with many sharks in it and there are also crows flying around harassing clonks (note: our crows could pass bridges. btw. elevators, water and clonks could pass too). the crows also could enter buildings and eat all stored food (and also heal themselves). another challenge was that ceilings of lose materials like earth could come down and needed to be supported with beams. and we introduced groundwater: tunnels below the water level sources of dripping groundwater were created slowly filling all deep tunnels with water. so either you had pumps running all the time or you needed to seal off the walls with pitch. some changes were made to render winter and freezing water much more difficult to handle. changes to digging to always produce excavated material - sounds not much but it made creating new tunnels much more complicated. buildings took damage and trees got chopped if their fundament was undermined. chopped trees also slowly visibly decay (they were added seasonal graphics too thus a chopped tree goes as it is->autumn->burned->pile of earth).

the scenarios were designed in such a fashion that you needed most of the stuff that was in the game. and it contained apart from the normal clonk elements we included all stuff from the clonk rage far worlds that fit into the concept.

the economy was extended by fuel to power e.g. submarines or drilling hammers, food system to acquire new clonks, seeds for reforestation, coins for the completely reworked trading system, alchemy ingredients for spell casting (but you needed to produce magic clonks and alchemy bags first), copper for conductors, all kinds of weapons to protect against animals, several magical resources to produce some helpful items like amulet for flying and magic bag (extend clonk inventory to by +10), potions, pitch for sealing walls, corals for underwater buildings (just taken from far worlds), a lot of electricity buildings as we reworked the old system, resource requirements for explosives were changed so that one needed much more different and harder to acquire resources to produce better explosives, torches to against counteract the fog of war, silos and refineries as an extended system for chemical factories dealing with fluids, vehicle upgrades (e.g. inventory extension for lorries or magic wight reduction)...

we made also many changes in the interface and handling. for example lorries could be switched to show their content (see screen shot) and you could display all the lines connected to one building and pick a specific one. as for the handling we made many improvements to the bridge elements that made them an essential part of any settlement (elevators and clonks could pass through but they still could be used normally). and also a lot of other things i don't remember right now.

... i think i'll upload the mod on ccan after all. it lacks any tutorial to or description of all its features... but well. better then just let it unused on my hard drive.

too larage for ccan it seems. 27 MB. well, i've uploaded it on RapidShare for now:
http://rapidshare.com/files/449147680/CoopMod.rar

there are some text files that contains some description about our mod. start with Short Desc and then the Features ReadMe. however it's all in German for now...
and well the mod was originally intended for private use only so... you know.

IIRC there is a special upload-by-ftp function for the CCAN if the file is too big.
