Who is up for a Clonk Meeting this year? A Clonk Meeting is a get-together of people involved in Clonk in some way. The primary goal is to have a good time together, discuss directions where OpenClonk is heading and maybe get some development done. You don't need to be an OpenClonk developer or contributor however; everyone is welcome.

I cannot host a meeting at my place, but there is a holiday home in the Black Forest where I have been to before and where I'd be willing to organize a CM: http://www.gruppenhausweingarten.de. There will certainly be more outdoor activities or other non-computer activities than at a usual CM but in my opinion that's not necessarily a bad thing. It will be more costly than earlier CMs (I guess 150-200 Euros per person, fewer if we are many). However with less than 10 people it's probably not worth it.

It's available from August 22 to August 28 and from September 12 to September 23. Please let me know if you are interested to come (and on which date). If there are at least 10 people who are, say, at least 90% certain that they will make it then I'll go ahead and book it.

To get to the place you can take the train to "Steinach (Baden)" (or maybe Offenburg if you arrive roughly the same time I depart). Did I mention there is no internet? :)

I'll try to get time off and come!

As group houses go, it's quite pricey though. What about the students among us?

Too bad, my "holidays" end on Aug 25.
Parent - By Clonkonaut [de] Date 2011-05-25 10:44
I will going on a year abroad in September, so no chance for me to attend then. Maybe in August if I succeed managing my affairs until then. But I can't promise anything.

Great that you want to take up the work to organize this! I would like to attend and also help with the organization on-site but I can't say for sure if I can.

Do you mean you are only not sure whether you can help with organization or you are not sure you can attend at all?

If I can attend at all. I will search for a job now and that might 1. be anywhere plus 2. I can't be sure that they will accept that I take vacation then.

I'd also like to attend, however completely unsure about the future(searching for Phd positions). September is typically the start of the academic year here, not sure how they feel about starting with a holiday.

Maybe it is also nice to consider a somewhat more central location, even though Germany has nice trains I am not sure I am willing to spent more than 300 euros and 16 hours of travelling time for 4-6 days.

>Stromverbrauchskosten 0,40 € / KWh

Better not use our laptops too much ;)
Parent - - By Clonk-Karl [de] Date 2011-05-25 14:22
Any suggestion for another location? This one has the advantage that I know it already and it being somewhat local makes it easier for me to organize things.

Usually you get cheaper tickets than 300 euros when booking a specific train well in advance.

> Better not use our laptops too much ;)

Assuming a laptop consumes 50W, running 16 hours a day (I hope it will be less...) and 6 days we end up at 5kWh, yielding 2 euros cost for laptop power per person. :)

In total of course, the last statement was just a joke, although charging that much for energy is insane, Germany just lacks the gdp/c for that.

I did last time, Meppen-Offenburg is not trivial to find, Munster-Karlsruhe is not optimal either, but I'll keep that in mind. I just prefer something more central.

Hm, where exactly in the Netherlands would you start? Just a thought, but for me Amsterdam is pretty easy to reach (easier than most German airports!), so I suppose we'd be thinking about similar routes.
Parent - By Maikel Date 2011-05-25 17:21 Edited 2011-05-25 17:23
I (Borger, The Netherlands) am actually quite far from Amsterdam, about 250km. And free travel is over for me in September :(

My point was basically that something more central, will suit more people. I'll probably manage to make if I have time.

I'm interested, too, but I have no clue what I'll be doing in the next 4 months...
Parent - By clonkine [de] Date 2011-05-30 22:25 Edited 2011-05-30 22:38
i would like to come too, but i think i cant cause i have to give my bachelor thesis to the profs at 16 of september and finish that thing till 30 of september...
what about a later date? in october for example...? but not sure about any date at the moment, cause i dont know if my company will give me a job or not, or if i do the master or what ever...
but if we ever find a date we could do a CM at my place thats in Nürnberg now. more space as in berlin, but still not as much as at ck's place ;)
but i have INTERNET and POWER too.. ^^
and goooooooooooood food ;)

edit: what about the time around new year? i guess most of us have holidays there...?!

So, counting optimistically we are at (for the August date):

quite sure: ck, Sven2, Günther, Mortimer
maybe: Newton, Maikel, Zapper, Cäsar, Loriel (told me in private)
very maybe: Clonkonaut, clonkine

What about PeterW? Do I interpret your comment so that you are interested as well?

If we want this meeting to happen in August I should book it in a little more than a week from now. The current situation is a bit too vague though, so if nothing changes until then I'm going to cancel it.

In other news, the full September range would be available.

Interested yes (goes without saying!), but right now I can't say how realistic it would be. Some weeks in August I will definitely be hiking, and there's other stuff coming up as well around that date. Having to fly also doesn't make things easier. I guess you can put me into the "very maybe" category. Sorry, really can't make things any less vague...
Parent - By Pitri [de] Date 2011-06-05 17:03
How i already on clonk.de said, i will come quite sure.

I would be silly, if there is a clonk meeting near to me and i would'nt participate.

What about Isilkor? - Isilkor, what about you?

So I had to cancel it. Sorry for everyone. Maybe clonkine's suggestion about doing something around New Years works out better.

Well, what "something" are we talking about? Personally, I'm at least in Germany around the time, so it's a bit more realistic.
Parent - By clonkine [de] Date 2011-07-10 20:41
yay
the idea is to make an ocm around new year prolly at my home in nürnberg. but i would like to hear some comments first. like, how many ppl are in germany this time, stuff like that...

Not sure if I'm in Germany, maybe I can shorten my vacation my holyday. I would prefer January than December. like 30th Dec to 5th Jan.
