What kind of style of music do we want for OpenClonk?
Do we want to continue this happy, jumpy Style? Or is an atmospheric saddy style more apropriate?
Modern electric style? What are your opinions?

[Edit]
Btw, which license should be used for music?
Parent - - By MrBeast [de] Date 2009-04-19 13:32
I think we shouldn't constrict ourselfs at the style of music too much. The musicians should choose self which style of music would be matching.

Well I am making some a the moment and I'm doing quite a range of jumpy and saddy songs, so I'd like to know what the community prefers ;)
Parent - By Enrique [de] Date 2009-04-20 11:58
Well when it's done, we can choose the musicstyle which is best ;) So make some to get a little bit to choose.

NO! NEVER! Music from CR was *SO* horrible, that 85%(exactly) of my friedns start thinking about hanging themselves (or destroying speakers) when they hear music from CR (including myself).

The CR music was pretty good I think. I really like the music! *Dance the Saloon forever!!!!!!11*
Parent - By Asmageddon [pl] Date 2009-06-25 18:10
I didn`t say it about music from any expansion pack, as I never bought CR, music from basic game was *REALLY* horrible, especially Rocking Horse, game music is like textures - the more it is repeating the more irregularities are striking, music for a calm, slow and peacefull game like Clonk should also be calm - like Knytt music.

Be constructive.
What music would you like in OpenClonk?
Parent - - By Asmageddon [pl] Date 2009-06-27 12:25
I already said in around three times in various threads, but sorry, for settlements(or any other game than melee) I woud advice style of music like in Knytt Stories or Crayon Physics Deluxe, anyway - it should be quiet, calm, mysterious(it builds climate very well), and like textures - smooth, because every time it repeats irregularities become more striking (Rocking Horse from CR is perfect example), and for melees something like in CX would fit good.

For me, I won't download a game to check out the music. You could look for a youtube video with the music you mean :)

:) But I think this style is a bit to calm for clonk.
Parent - - By Asmageddon [pl] Date 2009-06-30 09:13
Errr... too calm? But Clonk (at least CR and CE) is a calm, slow game (except melees, but they are not even half as fun to play as settlement).

Parent - - By Enrique [de] Date 2009-06-30 19:47
Uhm but other think that action is more interessting than settling, so this is no argument.

Parent - - By Asmageddon [pl] Date 2009-07-01 08:49
Okay, II agree,  but actionn in Clonk is  anyway  slow too ;P
And we could use another music for melees.

It think it was said, that we can use different music for different goals. So bouncy fast music for races and slow for settlement and so on.

Mh maybe it's interessting to include a system allowed you to activate some music-style-packs into a szen?
Parent - By Asmageddon [pl] Date 2009-07-03 10:58
Maybe let player set one of included music packs for settlement and melees separately?

I think that it fits perfect to the game.
But the "Endeavour" Music was also great.

Serious, Atmospheric, Grandiose, Provocative.

That's like, scentless and tasteless, not very rememberable. But I guess that's what game music is supposed to be.

Edit: In short, background music.
Parent - By MaxV2.0 [de] Date 2009-05-08 14:37
I think for melees it would be quite nice, but in settlement szenarios the music should be smoother.

I would say, post your soundtracks or midi files or whatever and let the majority decide whether it will be in or not.

lately I found AWESOME music soundtracks in some indie games.

Some of them are 2d and more reflexive than action-oriented, and I found that they could be a good example for something similar for clonk

braid soundtrack  http://braid-game.com/news/?p=260 (one quick youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kflCLshkOg )

crayon physics deluxe http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsTqspnvAaI

If they use the ISC license or creative commons license too, we could use (or remix) them ;-P. In any case, perhaps free good music that would fit for clonk already exists. Anyone searched through free sound archives yet?
Parent - By MastroLindo Date 2009-04-20 18:50
for cranyon physics deluxe music youtube details:
The music is _ghost - Lullaby and it's used under Creative Commons license.

I think, the music should change from situation to situation or from round to round, goal to goal. Maybe diffrent music packages for melee or settlement or whatever.

I think that's a great idea, to use different soundpacks for melees or settlements.
Parent - - By Carli [de] Date 2009-05-07 13:23
see InExandros. In fights the music is switched. when you go into an other area you have also other music.
Parent - By K-Pone [de] Date 2009-05-07 20:21
this feature is very good in my opinion. I think open clonk should have a feature built into it, that works like this.
Parent - - By LoneS [fi] Date 2009-05-08 08:42
Isn't that standard in pretty much every game?
Parent - By B_E [de] Date 2009-05-08 12:45
In every game except for Clonk ;)
Parent - By zagabar [se] Date 2009-05-09 19:11
Then the switch has to be fast. In CR it takes a tick for the music to load.... Very annoying.

As for me the most fitting music for Clonk would be music from Knytt, and other Nifflas games, as it fits clonks perfectly - Slow, calm and mysterious. And also music from Braid and Crayon Physics Deluxe would be good too. Music like that in CX for melees.

Some inspiration from Age of Empires II. I really liked the music and I think the style's quite fitting for Clonk:

I recommend a more groovy style with regulated elements of funk music.

like in Jack Jazz Rabbit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdPTh646z2o&fmt=18

Tropic fever out of the orginal music package would be a good example as well.

I like the style (and music by alexander brandon :D) and I think it would be suitable for OpenClonk.
But the whole game with this music... From my point of view a bit too aggressive for a calm settlement szenario.

I'm just talking about groovy elements, not about copying the music. I think it's possible to create calm tracks with a little bit of groove. One of the current clonk tracks does so. (..I forgot the name, it starts with a bassline, Edit: Go on Living(?)).
Parent - By MaxV2.0 [de] Date 2009-07-23 09:47
Ok, that sounds good :D
btw: I  listen to music from Clonk Planet currently and I can hear many funky/groovy elements in it.
