Still on my personal todo: Script cotton!

I was wanting to do that and might get on with it in the next few days. I've found one concept very promising, an old one from Fungiform: http://forum.openclonk.org/topic_show.pl?pid=16982#pid16982

The behaviour I'd picture as follows:
The plant starts to be a green stem, developing its Bloom and afterwards growing this balloon shape as Fungiform sketched all of it. When fully grown the plant starts floating (deattaching from the ground), falling back down after the POW. It spreads the seeds during the descent.
When professionally growing cotton, you better harvest it (cut with sickle) before it starts floating away.

So, yeah. In case anyone feels up to it, I'd be glad to receive the graphics. I don't care whether it's a sprite or 3d model whatever seems better.

I remember trying to do this on some OCM with Zapper and we got stuck at missing shape key animation support

So, you'd say sprite might be better?

Maybe? :( I think it boils down to how big that thing should get ingame. One could also try to hack around with animating the scale of some bones to achieve the effect of whitering/inflating. ck: Is bone scale animation supported?

This is as far as I came this evening. Not much time atm.
I'm not sure if I'm capable of making a hand-drawn sprite animation from it that would fit into the rest of the game...

How do we call this plant?
Parent - By Fungiform Date 2013-11-27 09:18
I think it was intended as our take on a cotton plant...

Popseed...

though, perhaps an English name rather than a proper name ("Eigenname"), like wipf or wompfberry, is not that good because it may just not sound right in other languages.

I think "wompfberry" sounds rather odd in english pronunciation as well. I guess there's a downside with either naming strategy ;)

Would have called it cotton but I'm open for suggestions.

I am for cotton. While I don't have anything against confusing players about what object is used for what purpose, I think we should save that for another opportunity.

I think Driftwool is an extremely cool name... but we can save that for the floating sheep :D

Not sure if "confusing players" really applies here. In which constellation would a player see this unknown plant with an unknown name, but not its description? Would that be improved by calling this obviously non-cotton-plant "cotton"? Also: Does calling it "cotton" really implicate the purpose? If I'm so new to the game that I don't know the resources, I also don't know anything about the other end of the production lines (e.g whether the blimp needs linen or wool or whatever).
