By the way, here its obvious that if we have more photorealistic and colorful textures, we need a soft transition between the different textures to make it look better. Additionally, the textures are very different from each other iin structure and coloring, I wonder if or how this could look. Or if a tunnel would look good which always has the texture and color of the material that has been digged free but darker.
Parent - By Sven2 [us] Date 2009-04-17 01:09
Transitions will probably look okay if we just darken the transition borders a bit.

I removed the Ice texture because I misunderstood the license terms for noctua graphics.
Parent - - By Carli [de] Date 2009-04-27 12:47
can I use these Textures for gwX Voxel-Landscapes?

As long as you comply with the terms of CC-by (German version for your convenience), you can do whatever you want. :)

ok I created a hint of who was the author.

Ok, some textures from me, hope that they will prove useful.:

They are all my work, and I post them all under CC-by license, so feel free to do anything you want with them.

Some more textures(+normal maps) in textures1.zip file, [Hi-res] are 1024x1024, and [Low-res] are 256x256, other are 512x512. I post them under CC-by license:

EDIT.: Actually there will be 3 .zip files as they all together have ~9MB

EDIT2.: There will be 4 files, why it must be 3000000b instead of 3MB?

EDIT3.: HUH!!!! I uploaded all four files, why is there only one?

Ehhh, so I`ll attach these textures one by one here.

Hm... The textures are not special. I think, we have some better ones. And pls look at you quality of the textures. :/

Parent - By Asmageddon [pl] Date 2009-06-27 14:12
I made them myself, they quality is bad especially because my camera is quite cheap one. I know that they are not too good, but I hoped that they could be usefull too.

EDIT.: I think that bark texture is quite good...

The Acid looks quite like the old one
Parent - - By Nachtfalter [de] Date 2009-04-24 19:44
It isn't final, its just a test how it looks like. And I dont know how Acid Fluid looks like, do you?

Parent - - By Cani [de] Date 2009-04-24 20:11
I think in the most cases it looks like clear water.
Parent - - By Zapper [de] Date 2009-04-24 20:14
But that wouldn't be suitable for a game: I think it should stay green. But maybe a bit more bright/aggressive (and bubbly!)
Parent - - By Cani [de] Date 2009-04-24 20:25
Yes of course that would be boring. And most people will think of green acid anyway. Maybe there should be some effects (bubbles, swashing, froth) for fluids that make them look more interesting.
Parent - - By Shadow [de] Date 2009-04-24 20:57
Yeah that sounds really interessting. We had to test that I think :).
Parent - - By Newton [es] Date 2009-04-24 22:11
This is something which can be tested with the Clonk Rage engine already. You wanna do that? You can post the results in the object & scenario dev forum then :-)
Parent - By Shadow [de] Date 2009-04-25 20:09
mh, I hope i doing right. But I will try it.
Parent - By Maddin Date 2009-04-25 06:53
Like this texture from Hazard.
Parent - - By Luchs [de] Date 2009-05-08 21:49
I like the way it looks in Portal, but I don't think that we can copy that into 2D.
Parent - - By Nachtfalter [de] Date 2009-05-09 01:04
Can you add a Screenshot? I dont remember how it looks like...

The bottom is the acid. Underwater (sorry, 'underacid') ist is just leight greenish.
Parent - - By zagabar [se] Date 2009-05-17 11:03
Is that acid? I don't think it feels like acid at all. I have always thought of it as some industrial polluted water. It iw way too dark and brownish IMO. I think it should be bright green, with a fuzzy bubbly animation. Maybe make it shit appearance depending on a corrosion variable.

Almost none corrosion = darker green, no bubbles
Some corrosion = brighter, few bubbles
Much corrosion = very bright, alot of fuzzing and bubbling and fchhh-noise. Almost like it were boiling.

Then acid wouldn't have a constant damage either. That would give more oppurtunities when making maps.

That sounds great, but it could be very ressource-consuming with mixing materials...
Parent - - By zagabar [se] Date 2009-05-17 22:04
What do you mean?
Reply
Parent - - By Simsi [de] Date 2009-05-18 14:00
I think just two or three different acids wouldn't be very good, so the acids must be mixable, as all other fluids, too, to get different corrosion values.
Parent - By Wertilq [se] Date 2009-05-18 18:55
That wouldn't be THAT hard...
Each liquid give their properties to the final liquid, and the corrosion value depend on that, oil would give it ignition properties, and water just dillute.

I dont mean three different acids. I mean ONE acid that has a constant called Corrosion that can be set somehow. Maybe upon the creation of the acid, i e the generation of the field, and that affects its behaviour.

I think that's a great idea, and would certainly enhance the complexity of the gameplay \o/ (and the fun >:3)

Parent - By Carli [de] Date 2009-05-18 08:53
good idea!
we can use animated textures (when material textures would be drawn by graphiccard and not by CSurface8 :( )
Parent - By Luchs [de] Date 2009-05-09 12:17 Edited 2009-05-09 13:06
testchmb_a_140002.jpg -> normal acid; escape_020038.jpg shows some other liquid (I don't know what it is) which would look nice a little bit brighter and greener.

[Edit (Isilkor): These images are non-free.]

Lava texture: Did you read the tutorial for texture making? It's really helpful and will make you produce much better results. Keep in mind that this texture will be scaled, say, up to 3 times smaller if you zoom out in the game. So it must look good in 1:1, but also if tiled. This is especially important for textures which will cover large areas like earth, perhaps rock and water, perhaps other liquids like lava.

Otherwise I find the idea to make the lava look ~like that super!

Slimy acid, seamless. I like it pretty much. :D

I think that would look weird with objects in front of it, it looks less like a background texture.
Parent - - By Maddin Date 2009-05-10 09:58
What about placing objects between the acid and background polygons (though, if polygons are used)?
Parent - By B_E [de] Date 2009-05-10 10:41
Dunno, I would have to see it ;)
Parent - By Newton [es] Date 2009-05-10 11:10
It is not of any use to speculate about polygon landscapes while it is not planned to be implemented. And it is not. We don't want to turn this into a myth like "everything would look better if we just use background polygons!".

Can you post the source of the lava texture? The texture actually looks nice, I just need to improve the tilability.

The water texture actually looks quite good. At least in comparison to the one-color mega-blue of Clonk Rage water.
Parent - - By B_E [de] Date 2009-04-24 21:38
The water looks as though it is seen from above. I think that would look quite weird in 2d.
Parent - - By Newton [es] Date 2009-04-24 22:12
Yes it is. But as I said - it looks still quite good and not too weird. I tested it. :-)

P.S: Whats that Admin-thing in your avatar supposed to mean?

Oh, that is cbg. I'll change it only to the logo.
