a sketch.
top left: top view
top right: front view
bottom: perspective view, with annotations.

i know, im not the best on drawing, but i think someone could use this as inspiration. so we have some input thingie on the right, i was not shure about it, it looks like some kind of trashcan. then, in the middle, you can see some "window" with wich you can see into the furnace. its glowing when you put wood or coal in. then, on the left, the liquid metal flows out when its hot enough, flowing into a casting mold (?), where it freezes and then can be taken out by pulling a lever. the whole thing is made out of bricks, and on the top, we have a chimney for santa.

mfg, MimmoO

edit: maybe there could be a water-basin in the front of ot. the make the bullion cold down faster... and maybe a gripper.

It's a nice design; simple and rugged. I also like the idea of pulling a lever to pop the metal out of the mold. :)

The only criticism I have is that the roof is a bit dull, but I'll model this sketch and modify it to necessary changes (unless you wanted to).

A while ago I made a sketch of a furnace myself. Here it is:

The sketch:
I don't like the uninspired box-shape of the hut. For my taste, there is also clearly missing some kind of (high) funnel.

Yeah, something like a real ironwork: http://www.free-blog.in/uploads/h/hexenzauberli/3849.jpg
(A bit tall... doesn't matter for the example)

ok, i overworked it a bit. the roof is now different, and its a it higher. i also added a waterbarrel and a pincer, and a "door" on the top where you can see into the furnace if something is wrong. the chimney is now metal and on the side.

Yeah, that looks good. Like a mix of the knight-foundry and the orginal foundry

Edit:
I made a 3d model, but it looks a bit boring, it needs some details...

Looks good (and accurate :o )! As for details, textures always help. ;)

Thats a job of textures and normal maps, isn't it?
Parent - By Newton [de] Date 2009-12-17 12:01
Depends on how big they are and where they are.
Parent - - By MimmoO Date 2009-12-17 13:54
looks nice :) can you post the polycount and/or the model?
Parent - - By Faby [it] Date 2009-12-17 18:10

Awesome! Btw, no door or something for a lore?
Parent - - By Faby [it] Date 2009-12-20 12:24
I donĀ“t know if make a door or how we do.
We could make a little container to kipp the ore in it (with the lorry)

I thought about this problem too. At the moment, ~all structures that we have have no door: The tools workshop, the steam power and now the foundry. I think to put the contents into these buildings could be a function of the lorry... or having the building fetch the stuff from lorries from in front of it by itself.

Since the Lorry had a "Load Up" function in CR, maybe it could have a "Load Up" and "Unload" function for OpenClonk. Unload would tip the lorry's case, dumping out all objects beside the lorry. If it finds a building entrance where the lorry is dumped, it dumps all the contents into the building instead of on the ground.

Texturing done.

looks pretty good, but i dislike the roofcolor. i think a more red roof would fit better.

Nah, why should roofs always be red?
Parent - By B_E [de] Date 2010-01-14 21:47
I would prefer a different roof to, but I think maybe a dirty, metal look would be more appropriate.

IMO looks good except the roof(not the wooden one).

I like the roof. Its colors fit to the rest of the furnace.

yeah! looks good, but the roof looks a bit strange, but ingame I think it looks good.
