I packed the current repository and compiled (for windows). For all those who didn't set up mercurial and compiled themselves yet, you can load and execute this:

To start in edit mode, give clonk the scenario as it's first parameter. E.g.

That build fails for me if I start a round - I am directly eliminated. Here's the log: http://de.wiki.nosebud.de/paste/l9xIllyi.html
Switch to OpenGL.
That fixed that part, but I've still got following issues:
- Ending any round crashes the engine
- Launchin boomshire crashes the engine
- The whole Landscape is covered with an odd texture: http://i.imagehost.org/0022/Screenshot001.png

Switch off [Undefined: [!]High Resolution] in the options. Is this on by default?
That fixed the issue. I'm not sure about default, I might have tested it on a previous build.
The build seems to be from a few hours earlier, since you only committet at 1800 and he postet here at 1700
I changed the default option to OpenGL. Probably you already had DirectX in the preferences. What should have worked too is to delete the preferences-directory in regedit.
now, when OpenGL is the default and all other things just work for OGL, we could remove DX Support.
It would just have effect to windows users and you would not have to download all DX dependencies from Morcosoft.

This is indeed a necessity if nobody volunteers to build the rendering support. However, I think it's on CKs todo list.
To download the DX SDK is only necessary if one wants to be able to compile an engine with DX support.

Only if really nobody else is going to do it. I don't know the DirectX API and I am not very keen to spend much time to learn it and make sure everything works. However, I'd prefer doing this myself instead of removing DirectX support. Hasn't Isilkor already some code for this available?
Well, OGL works quite badly on Windows, but it does. IMO good enough, and as it is already default one now - DX really could be removed, not only to simplify things, but in future you(we?) wont have to write separate shaders/renderers/etc fro both DX and OGL. Unless OC is not going to use some extremly GPU-expensive functions I do not see anything bad in throwing DX out...
We've already had this, please...
I'd prefer to keep it. Generally has less compatibility issues under Windows.
We already had this discussion. The procedure is easy: Plattform support will be removed after it has been broken for an extended amount of time, and nobody wants to fix it. That has not been the case with D3D yet, so this discussion only generates noise.
Which program do I need to unpack that folder? 7z is unknown to me and can't be unpacked by WINrar or the standard zip unpacker.
You need 7z.
Sure Winrar can unpack it.
I got Winrar v. 3.91 unlicensed and it does not work
okay there was some error while downloading the folder winrar dit it!

You can try the latest version of WinRAR.
I have wr 3.90 unlicensed and it works. Maybe you have to reinstall it and add the 7z extension.
"Diese Anwendung konnte nicht gestartet werden, weil die Anwendungskonfiguration nicht korrekt ist. Zur Problembehebung sollten sie diese Anwendung neu installieren."
I unpacked it with winrar and 7z but this message appears every time I start it regulary.

This usually means some missing libraries referenced in the application manifest.
but how can I fix that?
Shouldn't the missing library be shown?
There is no missing library. I think I got that once when I shipped someone a debug build.
Yep. All needed libraries are present. The problem is... we actually do not know the problem (I mean, ythe sequence of actions that led to the
Probably he has to check his registry branch (or delete one to have a fresh configuration).

- I do not know German very well but suppose it says something like: "The application can not be started due to configuration problems"). Probably he has to check his registry branch (or delete one to have a fresh configuration).
maybe the problem is that the registries of OC and CR overlap?
I tried to install both CR and OC at the same time and no problems were found (since CR and OC use different Windows registry branches). Did you try to run it using DirectX ?
I can't decide which graphic-system it uses until I can just run the exe. or can I already change before between directx and ..the other one?
Yes in the registry via HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RedWolf Design\OpenClonk\Graphics and then switch the value Engine between 1 and 0, 1 is OpenGL.
[Edit:]
Bah, see Newton.
[Edit:]
Bah, see Newton.
Huh? You mean the HKCU\Software\RedWolf Design thingy? There's a seperate folder for OC.
Yep. As Newton stated at the bottom, you have to edit Graphics/Engine value
So, you start clonk.exe and get an error message?
Try to switch to directX and run again
Try to switch to directX and run again
Where? The Windows Explorer searched "Direct" and "OpenGL". No hits. But I think that's the reason (OpenGL has never worked here).
If you can't start the program itself, there is no other option than to manually edit the option in the registry:
- open regedit
- go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RedWolf Design\OpenClonk\Graphics and change the value for Engine to 0 (0=DirectX, 1=OpenGL)
There is no OpenClonk folder in that registry thing but I didn't really install that game, I just unpacked it. did I miss sth?
The branch appears after you execute clonk.exe for the first time
Then you should probably install VisualC++ runtime libraries, as Gunther said (It can surely help if the package was built using VS8 compiler)
I'm too dumb for that so I wait til noobs can install this easily.
Download, Install, Try to start clonk.
Rather say unpack than install...
If OpenGL is set OpenClonk doesn't try to start. Of course, the folder can't be there.
The actual use of whatever 3D engine you've set (OpenGL or Direct3D) starts after the game was launched (the creation of registry branch happens before this moment - right at the beginning of program execution). So if you do not have any OC registry entries - it surely has nothing to do with the 3D engine.
