I can answer the first question: Yes, it is possible. In the original pack, I think we just do not have any buildings with entrances but the engine feature is still there, like in Clonk Rage.
On the second question, I cannot answer that. But perhaps you can give a little more information what exactly does not work / at what point of the step by step guide you are lost?
