I think traps and base defenses would be a very cool idea. If we get a working AI monster it would make them more necessary for survival.

P.S. Dose anybody have any concept art or models for this kind of stuff?

I can start doing sketches for that but in the moment Id rather finish the core buildings.
At some time we should spend some time thinking about animals...

Neither traps nor monsters ever proved to be any fun. I'm not saying it can't work, but you should consider it carefully.

I beg to differ on the first, the trapper in the western package was the most fun to play actually. With monsters I more or less agree, they are really hard to set up in such a way that they add real gameplay value.
