May we should focus a Genre...

Neutral is the best i think. Maybe mixed a bit up with Clonkpunk. But not to much.
I think neutral is the best. Fantasy, Western, Hazard and the default Object and Scenario Package are all completely different genres.
As I've already made clear in the clonk.de board, I highly prefer a neutral clonk. Well, as neutral als CR has been. Hazard hardly shares any objects or graphics with the "normal" or medieval clonk, as they are quite incompatible with a futuristic look. That's why I'd focus on medieval, fantasy & clock/steampunk – but without making things to narrow concerning atmosphere and emotion. I want neither a dark and cheerless clonk nor a teletubbie clon(k)e.
The point is, a neutral style we already have. "If you wanna this, play CR."
OpenClonk should be something other than Clonk Rage. But changing the graphicstyle isnt the right way I think. More changing the gameplay.
Without changing the style it's "quite the same but with other gameplay" ;)
Well, it's hard to talk about these things without seeing actual examples. Of course graphics should be renewed and I'd like a more consistent look. The balloon Newton has drawn for example is quite nice IMO. I can only repeat myself: Personally, I wouldn't like a dark and gloomy clonk. It doesn't fit.
Than we want a neutral style, with more detailed graphics/style then yet, lots of wood materials and so on?
I think you shouldn't limit your creativity by discussions what style exactly we want before anything has been shown yet. timi is right, I think you should just sketch on ;-)
Sketching is my big problem. Not the sketching self, but the motivation to take a real-world paper and draw on it. (yes, I can draw (think so...))
Stuck up at drawing perspektive with precision. We have here a 24" Graphictablet, but thats not a pen and paper alternative - for me :(
A february fun work of me (unfinished) may be an example for a half-neutral-neoklassical style ;)
can't find it til now. nice work, anyway. just a suggestion at this point: maybe you should change your gallery script; this one isn't very userfriendly. but - just a suggestion :)
Actually, it was already there before you suggested it. I've seen it. And how about an account for this forum? It doesn't hurt, and talking to Anonymous never feels nice.
Er, what the hell, a ship with a ballon?
But the picture looks awesome.
But the picture looks awesome.
I dont wanna have a realistic picture. The idea was "something with Airship and harbour/dock".
but i thing it would be a good idea to combine gwx and oc 'cause when you make some 2d graphics you have also 3d meshes which can be reused in 3d clonk
If OC use the models and not rendered-generated pictures we also can use the full and glorius power of 3D Models.
no, not really.
CR will never become as actual as Open Clonk, so why should somebody pay for this?

As we are changing lots of things for OpenClonk, CR will be kind of a different game.
And it will take a lot of time until OpenClonk will reach such a stable state as CR. Not everybody prefers alpha/beta-tests over mostly bug-free, stable versions...
So will the Clonk Rage Server run although Openclonkbeta is released?
Do you mean the league server or dedicated game servers?
At the moment, there are no plans to shut down any server. And the league server-scripts already have support for multiple games right now...but if it's a good idea to mix them (or have seperate servers) is certainly worth another discussion when the time comes...

If the game base is kept neutral, then a lot more freedom may follow in the mods and extensionpacks. Otherwise, the game may risk to be locked in a certain theme or style. For me, clonk means flexibility and it is stupid to kill that property. Then this will be like all other main stream game. Shallow and bland.
The problem is that there is no "neutral" style. Even the style of Clonk Rage (referred to as the 'clonkish style' or whatever) was always a bumpy road for modelers and they often moaned about how hard it is to copy the original style of Clonk.
I would say that the clonk style is quite neutral. It isn't fantasy, sci-fi, etc etc. Just neutral.
Just because it is uncommon does not make the style "neutral". And of course it's fantasy. Anything with magic qualifies for that, and even if you take out the stuff that is labeled as magic you still have exploding flints.
I would be surprised if anyone sees clonk without addons and calls it a fantasy game.
I'd call the style "normal" because I'm used to it. But after thinking for a moment, I realized that a game that combines self-invented creatures, magic and technology, could be labeled as fantasy.
Let's pretend for a minute that the "Fantasy" folder is an addon again, and that the magic tower doesn't exist. (If you really want to argue that a Magic Tower is not fantasy, I look forward to your arguments!) That leaves a game where little people dig around in the earth and find red balls which explode on impact. And green dragons. I call that fantasy. You can pretend to be surprised now ;-)
For me, clonk isn't fantasy because I think fantasy is medieval with magic. Clonk doesn't feel medieval at all with windmills (producing electricity), elevators, powerlines, industrial oil, etc. The flintstones just feel like some chemical thing, not magical. The "green dragons" is some kind of huge lizard like monster. I have never really ascociated it with a dragon. :P
But however, this whole discussion is very subjective and IMO pointless (no offence). I don't think it is good to get stuck in genre thinking. Everything doesn't have to be in a category, just add what fits, and see where people want to place it later. =)
