DAMNIT! now i know where i could have saved -.-* and i always smashed escape and f10 and got angry why there was no menu... even though i already USED "f" to join another player i always forgot about it, having other functions one second later ....
Well perhaps we should put these functions in a menu on esc, cause in most other games you have such a menu on esc and not on a Key that is near the normal movement. I think we have this function on f, cause it was there in CR and not because we always need it during movement.
putting it on escape would furthermore free up an important button for other uses :)
I strongly agree with this, as it's a break with general consistency. People are used to the menu beeing on Escape (or on F10 in Blizzards case).
True, but then rather we should put a bigger menu under that maybe, to be consistent with all other games.
Or a simple X-vertical-buttons menu like known from everywhere else - googling for "Main Menu" brings up that one for example: http://www.trucksims.net/help/main_menu.png
Redesigning the menu on Escape to contain the main menu entries was actually already on the list of things to do for Clonk Rage back then. We never got around to do it, although it wouldn't have been that much work I guess. It's definitely one of the weird/unintuitive things left in Clonk.
The main buttons are rather simple; same for the options. Some of the content is generated dynamically though (goals, rules, player join dialog), and the good old CreateMenu/AddMenuItem is just so much easier to use than creating a new C4GUI::Dialog and messing with button locations, keyboard shortcuts, etc.

I always wondered why every single button in the menu has a keyboard shortcut. Does anyone actually ever use them?
I rarely use anything except Esc. I guess the shortcuts exist to troll newbies saying: "Hey, press Alt+Bla".
