Hello,
I actually work on a little Monster inspired by this : http://forum.openclonk.org/topic_show.pl?tid=790
The model have 14 190 polys.
PS: Can you change my nick to "Muzaff", please ? because "Mister-M@R" is not as good nick

Hi, cool that someone feels motivated to work on that :D
For working on that creature I am currently using the following model with 316 polys:

I will try to transform the high poly in low poly to see what it gives, is there a limit of polys?
Well, yes, there is the golden rule that applies to all real time rendering models: No more polygons than needed, no less than necessary. To give you a a number to work with: For animals in clonk I'd aim for something around 1000, but in most cases way below 2000 polygons. I think zappers model with 316 polygons is a good example. His monster hasn't got many distinct features, hence the low poly count.
I have changed my model to low poly now have exactly 1000 polys :)

I only see 20. You have some perfect shaped spheres in this thing ?
To make it darker, edit the material properties in Scene.material.

Done.
Hm. I'm not particularly fond of both these SciFi-ish monsters. I was always happy with the old animals. Big, curly eyes for a certain cuteness level and more or less resembling something from the real world (like dinosaurs: http://www.clonk.de/gallery.php?lng=de&sec=ce&img=lavacave.jpg).
These aliens would be cool - as I said - for a SciFi world but in the common clonk scenario I'd prefer something more close to a real animal bearing the typical cuteness of clonk in it.

I mostly agree with this. However, copying animals from the real world will only get us so far; Before actually doing animals we should agree on their role in the game.
They could be:
- stupid enemys (like the old monster)
- stupid annoyances (like wipfs)
- stupid nothings (like birds, butterflies)
- domesticated animals used in farming - not much of a behaviour (pigs, goats, sheep, cows, chicken)
- intelligent wild animals with behaviour depending on the player (foxes, wolves, monkeys, horses)
I'd gladly design some animals or unique creatures once we know what they'll be used for.

Besides "ARGH SWORD WHY DID YOU HIT THE PIG INSTEAD OF THE ENEMY" ;)
I still want the old chippies back btw. :(
Maybe not the behaviour, but the look. :D
