I created a tutorial for creating seamless textures:

Good tutorial. Thanks for writing it. I'll criticise some minor points, though:

1) The sentence "Textures with repeating regular patterns like bricks need to be rotated upright first": My first thought, when reading that sentence, was "What? Why does it have to be upright?". It then dawned on me what you actually mean, but I still find that sentence a little confusing. I'm unsure how to improve the wording. Perhaps the term "axis-aligned" leads somewhere.
2) In the section "Optimising the texture": The texture which has been improved is displaced. That's irritating and makes it hard to compare the two - after all, your point in this section is which distinct features have to be removed.
3) The whole point of the section isn't entirely clear to me. I have little to no clue about textures - I think you should add a short paragraph, explaining why "striking" features are bad. Really, I don't see why you should prefer the second texture to the first one.

>1)

Upright also means "gerade" in German.

>2)

fixed

>3)

"We need to find a compromise between "tileability" and keeping distinct features in the texture. If we remove too many features, it looks boring, if it has too many, it doesn't look good if tiled. For most, we need to know from how far the texture should still look good"

=> If the texture has striking features, it looses tilability as the recurring patterns are very prominent.

Much thanks for this tutorial. Before I read this, I created my textures in a other more difficult way.

I suggest trying Image Styles, its a program designed specially for design of seamless textures. http://www.tucows.com/preview/518202

it is trialware, so when trial period ends you can try older version of this program, Texture Processor: http://www.snapfiles.com/download/dltexturepro.html
It is capable of creating seamless textures asily, I`ll have some attachments of textures made by myself.

Sometimes I made my textures with 'Texture Maker'.

But it's shareware.
