Guys, with all this CR-related activity on clonkspot, we gotta catch up ;-) We got content, we gotta bring it out there.

So what about a new stable 4.2 or another release 5.0?

Currently in progress are
+ Clonkonaut's heavy-resources
+ Sven's league
+ K-Pone's music
+ Zapper's new-controls [interwoven with custom-gui]
+ Zapper's custom-gui [interwoven with new-controls]
+ Maikel's new-tutorials [depends on heavy-resources, new-controls]
+ and as I see in the repos, a new scenario by Sven and many smaller tweaks and fixes by many of the team, even Guenther (hello there Guenther!)

Critical-bugs and -fixes-wise I don't have a good overview but my first impression from the bugtracker is that we could release a 4.2 bugfix release right away.

What do you think, what would be better? An update or a new release? If a next release, what should be in it? And also, wouldn't it be time to change (or remove?) the subtitle "Beyond the Rocks"?
Parent - By Zapper [de] Date 2014-04-26 08:58
Well, I won't do anything before at least the 15th next month.
Parent - By Maikel Date 2014-04-26 10:17
Finishing and testing heavy-resources and controls take at least three more months in the best case scenario.

So for music and league we should go for a 4.2

If we do a 5.0 release I'd also like to change the version scheme from 5.5.0.0 to 5.0.0, though we really only need major.minor.

Private life got me tangled up the past week. But I'm positive that I'll be able to push the last changes for the heavy-resources next week. Testing can follow but as Maikel says, it's costly. We can see how long the rest of the release stuff takes and when that's ready, look how far heavy-resources got.
Critical will be graphics. Haven't got any so far. Will ask Matthi again. But I wouldn't want to release without any model for the chunks..

Currently stuck in sprint -1 of a larger project (which, fingers crossed, leads to my master thesis), but I will see what I can arrange at the weekend.

Still wrapped up?

Well, yes, said project has indeed evolved into my masters thesis and there are always surprises with the client. But this problem is what drained my motivation below commitment level, because I don't want to spend my free time on models that are bound to be ugly, and need to be redone when the support is in later. :\

Well, okay then. The heavy resources project naturally also depends on graphics / models getting done. What I saw from you wasn't that bad really.
These feature threads "feature will be done in *month*" are shaky at best. However, I'd say the hr are postponed until August then unless someone else is ready to contribute some (/one) rocks.

If it helps, putting landscape and objects on a common "shaderified" basis would be one of my next steps for the lights branch. And I definitely want normal maps for landscape textures, so from there it wouldn't be too hard any more...

What about a 4.2 release for K-Pone's music, bug fixes and the league?

If K-Pone finishes Skylands we have three music pieces which offer at least some variety, and I like the music so far when having played.

Also the league seems to be working (at least the melee part), we can activate the settlement/adventure leagues after more testing.
Parent - - By Sven2 [de] Date 2014-05-05 12:29
I think one showstopper was that updates need to be working for the league?
Parent - - By Maikel Date 2014-05-05 12:42
updates?
Parent - By Sven2 Date 2014-05-05 12:46
That button next to the network game list whcih turns OC4.1 into OC4.2. Or does it not work for OC anyway?
Parent - - By Newton [th] Date 2014-05-06 17:48
Don't they? Whenever no OCU is available, the player is automatically redirected to the website's download page.

Theoretically, updates work with windows 7 again. However, CK's release scripts do not create OCUs anymore.
Parent - By Sven2 Date 2014-05-06 17:55
OK, I'll have a look.

They do, if possible. Updates don't support removing files, so if files are removed (or renamed) between two versions, then no update is generated.

Why not a pre-run* of the league?

*League fully functional, existance of league and regular league-evenings are announced in the blog to get it started, not the official masterserver yet however

This bug is rather crucial: The Win32 snapshot build does not work. http://bugs.openclonk.org/view.php?id=1082

It does work when I build myself, so my guess is something is wrong with the automated build system.
Parent - - By Clonk-Karl Date 2014-07-14 14:46
Maybe the depedency DLLs shipped by the release scripts are no longer up to date? Can someone test whether the autobuild works with the DLLs provided here: https://git.openclonk.org/static/autobuild/openclonk-deps-win32-i386-mingw.zip

If not, I think this would be a case for Isilkor...

For me that does not work.
Parent - - By Sven2 [de] Date 2014-07-18 23:22
I'm not sure what you did, but now the 64 bit snapshot doesn't work any more either D:

It's missing libjpeg-62.dll.
Parent - - By Clonk-Karl [de] Date 2014-07-19 08:09
I don't think I did anything... the snapshot is shipping libjpeg-8.dll. A statement from Isilkor would be helpful. Did something with the autobuild change? Are the dependencies linked at https://git.openclonk.org/static/autobuild/openclonk-deps-win32-i386-mingw.zip and https://git.openclonk.org/static/autobuild/openclonk-deps-win32-amd64-mingw.zip up-to-date?

No; the win64 deps contain libjpeg-8.
Parent - - By Sven2 [de] Date 2014-08-01 09:31
The dependencies are now updated, but the snapshot still contains the old files.

It works if I copy the latest dependencies manually into the latest snapshot. The snapshot must be taking its stuff from some other place.

Should be fixed now. What happened to the mape build?

It's not fixed yet (testet 64 bit windows build). Do we have to trigger a new build?
Parent - By Clonk-Karl [us] Date 2014-08-01 18:28
Yes; I have just triggered a new build.

It's back. There's also a rather nasty bug with recent GTK/GLib.

Thanks! This problem should be easy to fix (I couldn't test the windows version, though).

Hey CK, hows life in Boston?
Parent - - By Maikel Date 2014-08-03 20:34
./openclonk: error while loading shared libraries: libGLEW.so.1.7: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

64-bit linux build failed to start, ubuntu 14.04, I have libglew1.10 installed.

this is why nobody sane tries to distribute Linux binaries of anything beyond "hello world"

I'll be on vacation for the next month and only sporadically online. So I'll probably not push a release for now.
Parent - - By Newton [de] Date 2014-08-02 16:31
What's your destination?
Parent - By Sven2 [at] Date 2014-08-04 21:04
Right now I'm at Graz for our Clonkmeeting and after I'll travel the Alps (Austria and Slowenia) for hang gliding.

>Guys, with all this CR-related activity on clonkspot, we gotta catch up ;-) We got content, we gotta bring it out there.

The beauty of CR was it's simple game-play, large amount of content, easy to learn; but hard to perfect game-play, the graphics were simple good looking; and not hard on the eyes.
I might even say that CR was way easer to mod.
The ability to play 4 or 5 players on one computer made CR's multi-player game-play more fun.
And last CR could be played on older computers.

OC has some more advanced properties to it.
Its controls are not hard to learn.
3d graphics were interesting, but perhaps unnecessary considering that OC is a "2d" side-scroller.
OC has less game content, but maybe more dynamic game content.
The ability to aim using the mouse is an interesting dynamic.

There are more things that are interesting about CR and OC, but I really think that CR appeals more to a family audience than OC, but OC may appeal more to serious gamers.
The fact is OC is a totally different game than CR.

I think CR is more appealing to group play, and OC is more appealing to a single-player or a player that wants to play via the Internet.
