Every game has got a logo even before the first line of code is written.

I made a Logo that doesnt fit between the others we had so far but i think it is very punchy.

Hurr, not really or? Logo isnt Klick klick and finish. First we should make some brainstorming about ideas of the game, what the Logo will say to the Customer and which Elements/Fonts we need. Last step: Logos have to be vectorized, so kick off the 3D Program... :/

Here some really good OpenSource Logos, little Web 2.0 but okay. Thats the style we should focus, I think.

How about sticking to the Tango Icon Theme Guidlines? (Perhaps not to all points but they've made a great base of how icons/logos are supposed to look like.)

Another OpenSource Logo you can bear in mind: Teeworlds.

Tango: Know it.
Teeworlds Logo: Thats a style, I wouldnt prefer...

>So yes, OS X Aqua style is inspiring and a reference on several issues mentioned later. Oxygen, however, does not intend to copy anything but rather to collect ideas for the ways that people present visual metaphors with an eye not only on artwork but also on usability and improve on these ideas.

Customer, hurr? ;-)
I'd favour a logo that incorporates the established "Clonk" from the prior Clonk games plus the game title of the OpenClonk game or a completely new style which fits to the new look of the game. E.g. if we go towards Clockpunk, with gears and such.

Another word for new User, whatever.

Yeah, thats the reason I'll prefer to wait with some additional art, like Logos, Banners, matthes will know.

It's just a suggestion. :)

No, they don't. In fact, I think most game logos are either drawn or rendered.

Parent - - By Nachtfalter [de] Date 2009-04-14 19:51
1) in a very, very high resolution
2) compositing of rendered and vectorized items
3) Vectorized with special effects so it looks very 3d (e.g. car brands)

choose one.

Er, why? It just has to look good, the means towards that are secondary.

I dont see a reason why a Logo must be rendered, to look good. Except of EA Games most Logos aren't rendered and the EA Game Logos can also be make vectorized and looks the same. Nohing is impossible...

I didn't say there is a reason, just that there is no reason not to. A logo which is only used on the screen simply does not have any of the usual restrictions that apply to logos, so the artist is free to use whatever tool he wants.

Maybe not for ever@only screen. Thats the reason why #clonkdev is overfload by License Discussions, or?

I don't know about any plans to use an openclonk logo in less capable medias. And even if there were, we shouldn't let that hold us back. If RWD ever decides to make another Clonk2d title, they would probably use another logo anyway, like they did with CE.

Logos should normaly not be rendered. A SVG would be the best i think.

.eps is the best/usual exchange format.

I dont think so. SVG is more common and free. I dont see any drawbacks.

That's why Inkscape supports esp, among other formats.

I think SVG stands more for OpenSource. And as we're talking about OpenClonk, why don't use OpenSource formats (in gerneral)?
Or shall we stick to .eps during the development process, and include an exported SVG to the final version?

By the way, how is (e)ps licensed? Is it OpenSource?

Parent - By Nachtfalter [de] Date 2009-04-16 10:41
Afaik is eps licensed by Adobe - not free. All Logos finally can be in .svg or .png or .gif or whatever, but to work with other people in the devprocess we should take the eps. I dunno whether more than one graphicguy will work on it...dont think so.

We have to have a toilet brush!
Apart from all S2brush-fetish... Is it already clarified, that the game title is Open Clonk?
Parent - - By Maddin Date 2009-04-17 13:32
I think, it's a good title for a game. "Open" suggests only good things, doesnt it? (Well, please dont think of unlocked house-doors at night when the criminals roam around ;) )
Parent - - By Caesar [de] Date 2009-04-17 16:32
Well, it inflicts the tradition, that names always are "Clonk" and some nondefining but cool sounding word. And I think, OpenClonk just sounds like whatever, it doesn't make me hungry to play it.

After short brainstorming I thought about an logo showing the connection between Clonk und Open Source. My first mockup was about "Open" on the top and "Clonk" on the bottom highlighting the connection of the "O" of Open with the "C" of Clonk.
Open
Clonk
In my opinion we should show these people outside of the Clonk Wold(TM) the connection of Clonk with Open Source in a good looking, stylish logo. What are your thoughts about my idea?
Parent - - By Maddin Date 2009-04-21 19:18
Well, this is near that picture above.
Parent - - By stevi [de] Date 2009-04-21 20:06
Is it possible that you didn't understand my post? I meant, we need to connect the O and C. Take the Clonk Enedeavour logo as an example. You see how the lower line of the "c" went smooth into the middle line of the "e". Anyway, I hope you understand now what did I mean ;).
Parent - By Maddin Date 2009-04-22 13:05
The T fits into the gap between the L and O. I think that is also some kind of connection. :7
Parent - - By K-Pone [de] Date 2009-04-21 20:07 Edited 2009-04-21 20:11
What about this one? I made it with GIMP. The right one is with transparent background.
Yes, I know I'm not the best designer.
Parent - By Shadow [de] Date 2009-04-21 20:58
mh I'm good logodesigner by using gimp. I will create some logos next time.
Parent - By stevi [de] Date 2009-04-21 21:33
I like the left one. But it's in my opinion too "unclonkish" :s
Parent - - By Caesar [de] Date 2009-04-22 12:34
Can't we leave the original Clonk-Letters? Or are they also protected?
Parent - - By K-Pone [de] Date 2009-04-22 12:40
Yes, I think so. As I know, everything from clonk is copyrighted by RedWolf Design.
Parent - By Maddin Date 2009-04-22 13:06
Of course. They created it.

Er, I'm feeling free to qoute Nachtfalter in the first part of his saying - because I not really share his opinion in the second one ;)
