Does anyone know some good and large free sound archives? Please share your links, we will need many good sounds I am sure. There are many crappy and small sound archives out there which offer synthesizer sounds like "boioioing", "uit! uit! uit!", "tötörööö" (the Clonk flag base sound amongst some others came from one of these archives, actually) so it's a harassment to search for specific sound on Google. Thats why its good to have a collection of reliable sources.I'll start:
http://www.freesound.org/ - you have to register but otherwise it's a big archive with high quality sound effects, ambient sounds and even soundtracks!

And I have already used sounds from there once (for Caedes)You Are Free: - To use the sounds in any music, film, video game, website etc. whether commercial or not, without paying addiotional royalties or other fees beyond the initial membership cost (if any)
But you don't need to register for (all of?) the sounds. So I really don't know what the "membership costs" are. Maybe Ad-Free sites or something
You have to register. And when you are registered the downloadable Sounds are limited to 5 the month. Or you have a premium account. Then you have to pay but the downloads are unlimited.

but the sounds are well sorted and nor registration is needed. :)
I used it alot in the past, mostly for ambient and interface sounds.
