The other day I was thinking about the energy storage.
As our style is supposed to be "Clockpunk" I came up with the following idea which is inspired by old clocks in which have a weight to store energy.
Excessive energy is used to lift a heavy weight in a scaffold. When the energy is needed the mass is released and the movement is used to power a generator to make the energy available again.
I made a small gif to show how it could look in action:
I think its a nice visual way to show that/how much energy is stored. Also the similarity to the windmill makes it easy to see that it belongs to the "energy-building Family".

Great idea and great sketches.
I love how logical it is, we need more of this! :D

While the idea is really cool, I feel we're getting dangerously many similarly looking buildings (Windmill, Elevator, Energy storage). We need some way to distinguish them easily at least in the construction menu.
In this case the similarity is intended. The concepts I do follow the principle that buildings of one "family" have similar character.
Zoomed out or in the construction menu the buildings can be distinguished by the characteristic silhouette. I can post the silhouettes later when I have time.

At least the windmill should be easily distinguishable because of its wings.
I also think the distinction between windmill and this wouldn't be a problem. Also, at least as it is now, the elevator has a very different shape, because it is bent with the case offset to the side.
In the menu, it could be made looking totally different by having the title picture be shown from a different angle.
Looks good, I'd especially like these small lightbulb thingies indicating power consumer/producer. I'd love to have those on all buildings using that.
Especially yours and Matthis sketches look so good that I begin to really like your idea to set up different pages in the wiki for the (progress on) the objects in the artwork department.
This is exactly the style I always wanted for OpenClonk! Keep up the good work. (We should keep the silhouette idea for the construction menu in mind)
As an extra function, you could allow activating it to trigger an earthquake :)
