Well, I've been a bit creative recently and made some quick thing in LMMS, and here it is. Tell me what you think about it. Just to have this said, it's a Work in Progress, meaning it's not finished yet and I might upload a new version of it soon.

I like this one. I hesitated a moment upon reading "reggae", but it's actually quite nice and smooth.  I only think the snare and the trumpet which starts at 1.05 break it a bit, they sound rather.. unsmooth? I lack the musical vocabulary to describe this properly, sorry. :)

Well, actually it's not a trumpet, it's a saxophone ;) But yes, I agree with that, the saxophone is quite a bit disturbing the smooth sound.

Aaand earworm. Well done.

Nice! The sax interference is a bit annoying, but remove that and maybe make it a bit longer, and you may have something good for the game. :D

Well done!

Just a side note here: The LMMS source file(s) of the audio project should also be uploaded (to the repository).
Parent - - By K-Pone [de] Date 2014-03-18 12:43
Yeah, but the songs aren't yet finished. Anyway, how can I upload something to the repository? Or should I just attach them like the other files?
Parent - - By Maikel Date 2014-03-18 13:29
If you don't know git, just attach them in the forum for now. If you know git you can make patches, which one of the devs can apply.
Parent - By K-Pone [de] Date 2014-03-18 13:33
Would probably be the best solution as I've never used git yet.
Parent - - By Newton [th] Date 2014-03-19 11:03
You can just upload the files here in the forum or bugtracker and someone else can push them in your name.

Or, you commit them to your local git repository and create a pull request on github.
Parent - - By K-Pone [de] Date 2014-03-19 13:34
I think for now it should be better for me if I just upload them here first and someone else does the git tasks for me. I should learn how to use git first before I do anything with git towards the project.
Parent - By Zapper [de] Date 2014-03-19 13:55
If you do not want to do very complicated stuff, git (with a proper UI) is not too hard to get into :)

IslandDreams.ogg - Island Dreams (Release version) (4250k) has been pushed into the repository (and should be in the snapshots soon).
Resource repository now contains the LMMS file as well.

Thanks for your contribution to the project K-Pone!

You're welcome! Thanks for adding it. I'll see if I can finish the Rock song soon as well. But I want to make sure the quality of the sound and the song itself is good enough. Just don't want to rush anything.
Parent - - By J. J. [py] Date 2014-03-25 13:40
Nice! I want this in game. Your sound tracks are great. +1 ;)
Parent - - By Maikel Date 2014-03-25 13:48
It is ingame, you can test it using the development snapshots.

I've just uploaded a new version of the song. Check it out and tell me if you like the changes I made. Most notably change is the saxophone which has been replaced by some kind of bell synth.
Parent - - By Matthias [de] Date 2014-03-13 00:04
By the way, this song with its syntiness and panflutes reminds me of Jazz Jackrabbit, which most likely is a good thing, because that music was really great.

Yep, that's true. I like the JJ soundtrack as well. Quite cool these old game's musics.

+1!

I was about to say the same thing. It reminds me of the song "Diamondus" from Jazz Jackrabbit 2.
Parent - - By Zapper [de] Date 2014-03-13 00:08
I like it!
I am not sure yet whether that style fits into OC settlement, but that would just need to be tried out. It might be exactly that sort of unique music style that fits for Clonk :D

What did you say? I can't hear you. My ears are still bleeding from HOURS of accumulated listening to Rocking-Horse.ogg.

Saddy Song ftw
Parent - - By K-Pone [de] Date 2014-03-13 01:11
No Grief! btw did that song ever existed as a midi file in Clonk Endeavour?
Parent - - By Fluff [gb] Date 2014-03-13 22:09 Edited 2014-03-15 00:06
I think it was only an ogg? You can download the whole folder here.
Parent - By K-Pone [de] Date 2014-03-13 22:41
I know. I still got that original music folder I downloaded when CE was the latest version of Clonk.
Parent - By K-Pone [de] Date 2014-03-13 01:09
Maybe, who knows. I think since OC is not exactly like CR, it might be not that bad to have some slightly different music style in there.
- - By K-Pone [de] Date 2014-03-13 20:42
... aaaand Version 3 is up now. In my opinion one could say it's finished yet. It has a length of approximately 3 minutes and 15 seconds, so this I think I should leave it that way. If you all agree, I might do some changes to improve the sound a little bit, which is mostly adjusting the levels of the tracks and instruments and adjusting some equalizer settings.
Parent - By Andriel Date 2014-03-13 21:58
Respect! You made a nice song.
But I think this synth style doesn't fit for OC.
Good work though.

It's good, but I must admit every time I listen to this, I kind of expected the first melody to return (or be hinted at) at some point in the second half, like a "refrain" or "main theme" or "characteristic melody" something (still lacking, music-vocabulary, sorry ;)). Nonetheless, I like the new part as well, but it's a little bit less catchy as the first part in my opinion - I think there is less earworm potential there, because there are 2 (3?) different parts in the second half (which are all good!) that sound like they should go /between/ the "refrain" to bridge them. But maybe this opinion is simply because I already listened to the first part more often in the previous versions, I dunno.. I might think otherwise after hearing this one 4 hours consecutively in some settlement scenario :)

I'm in favor of dropping this in the game to try it out. We might get some feedback from players in the next release then.

>I'm in favor of dropping this in the game to try it out. We might get some feedback from players in the next release then.

I'd say we should do that when we have at least two pieces of music that are similar in style. So that there is at least /some/ alternation
Parent - - By Sven2 Date 2014-03-14 14:31
Alternatively, the music could start once in the beginning and then just stop.
Parent - - By K-Pone [de] Date 2014-03-14 18:13
Could it also be an alternative to put in some option to define the amount of variation for the music? I mean, some number that the user could define in the options. This number then results in an amount of different songs that have to be played first before a song will be available to be played again. Or maybe just an amount of time that has to be elapsed first.
Parent - - By Matthias [de] Date 2014-03-14 18:35
This sounds rather makeshift. Making sure that music doesn't annoy the players is not the players responsibility, I think.

Yep. So, best would be if we provide a certain amount of songs. Good songs, just to have that said.
Parent - By K-Pone [de] Date 2014-03-14 18:09
Yep. Some more pieces of music might be nice to test it out. I also tested that out how the song sounds in OC by adding it to the yet empty music group folder. It sounds nice but it really becomes annoying after some time since you just listen to the same song again and again. After about one hour I've been playing one round I just deactivated the ingame music.
- - By K-Pone [de] Date 2014-03-20 13:12
Another new version time! Made some major changes to the instruments this time. The Panflute-like lead synth is now backed up with another panflute sound making it sound a bit more rich and wide. Also some parts wich have been played by the bell synth are now played by a polysynth patch from a regular soundfont. I think after this one I could think about releasing it as the final version after I got some feedback about this 4th WIP version now.
Parent - - By Maikel Date 2014-03-20 14:11
No negative feedback from my side.

Any other people having problems with music ingame, does not work on my self compiled windows engine. On the linux release it works. Is the release compiled with fmod?

Just had it once that I had to switch music off and then on again ingame for the next track playing, but any other time it works fine for me.

What version of OpenClonk and which OS?

Great job on the music btw!

Stable release 4.1 on Windows 7 Professional 64bit

I've just uploaded the final version of the song. Made some minor adjustments to some tracks, mostly just EQ adjustments. I've also attached the LMMS project file as Newton told me. I finally gave the song a name. I named it Island Dreams because that was something I was thinking about when I composed it. Maybe we have some scenarios like the Tropical Islands from the older Clonk games soon. Who knows...

Can somebody submit the two files to the repository for me and maybe explain it to me how I could do it by myself next time?
Parent - - By Maikel Date 2014-03-21 12:20
I can do that tonight.

But, related to this: Is there the need for a FrontEnd song? And should it be this song? Should we have multiple songs? (Might need engine support).
Parent - - By Matthias [de] Date 2014-03-21 13:45
If there is need for a frontend song at all, it should be a really, really subtle one
