I'm away coming week, so AlteredARMOR could have a look at that.
Parent - By TheBuilder [us] Date 2010-02-13 10:04
His example of sulphur looks good, but maybe add a bit of dusty yellow to it, his example seems just a bit too neon-ish . . . . hmmm, just my opinion.

>B_Es sulphur looked good

The second graphic for the sulphur looks like the light is hitting it at the wrong direction. D: But otherwise, it looks quite nice.

Rotate it? ;-)

Oh BTW: Material chunks where the light does not come from the front, making all borders darker the same amount may not be rotateable in the game. So either AlteredARMOR rerenders all material chunks with the light coming from the camera or you gotta delete all Rotate=1 from the DefCore.
Parent - - By AlteredARMOR [ua] Date 2010-02-14 18:37
Yeah, at first I didn't thought that they are gonna be rotated. It is a good fuctionality thus it should not be removed. I can rerender troublesome materials just tell me which one of them look not too good (I see that ice and rocks are lighted quite well, and so the crystals, I suppose - so there is no need to rerender them).

Gold earth snow ore

Done. You can clear your cache and see them in the first post of this topic

Now they look less 3d because there seems to be no darker areas at all (e.g. gold). You could try moving the light source closer to the model so that (probably?) shadows appear at a smaller angle.

How about this one?
EDIT: And another one?

I think I have to remodel all of theese (considering this and this).
(Yeah, my bad, I made them without alpha).
I will shrink them to 64x64 and post later.

The material chunks are fine without a "perspective" rendering, since they are pretty round. Just need them with alpha.
Parent - By AlteredARMOR [ua] Date 2010-02-08 13:59
Oh, OK.

Can't you just rerender them?
Parent - - By AlteredARMOR [ua] Date 2010-02-08 14:03
I can. I'll do. But "Ich habe keine zeit", sorry

Parent - By Caesar [de] Date 2010-02-08 14:05
No prob. Keep things cool and do them when you can. ;)
- By AlteredARMOR [ua] Date 2010-02-08 16:15 Edited 2010-02-08 16:19
Ok, I finished posting rerendered images and thus will continue to add other models at a regular basis

I added some images for crystals as well. Do not think that we need them right now (or that we will use them at all) but I was in a kind of mood for creating them.

Sorry, I just can't resist colorbands :D

I hereby license the following file(s) under the CC-by license

And I must admit you are very good at it
EDIT: I dimmed lights a bit so crystals won't look that bright

Thanks! I haven't really got very much Blender experience - I never modelled more than a screwdriver.
But hey, nice you like it =)
Parent - - By Newton [de] Date 2010-02-09 02:33
I don't like that design. The crystal material render lacks a real crystal as a draft. Google search for "quartz" for some crystals. Also, have a look at my quartz material textures I took from photos - http://forum.openclonk.org/topic_show.pl?pid=1481#pid1481
Parent - By AlteredARMOR [ua] Date 2010-02-09 08:05
Isn't it supposed to be some kind of a magic crystal?
Reply
Parent - - By Ringwaul [ca] Date 2010-02-14 09:33
Maybe it should look something like this? It's colours are strikingly similar to your purple-crystal texture (amethyst, no?), and the shapes are a good reference for basic crystals.

Parent - By Newton [de] Date 2010-02-14 13:14
~yeah. But these crystals are about 5mm to 1cm big.
- By TheBuilder [us] Date 2010-02-09 09:21
Umm is it just me, or do the gold chunks kinda look like dirt now?

About sand and ash:
I do not think we should implement images for them. I mean you can not dig a "chunk" of sand and carry it with you. Even if you can carry sand it would look like this:

I suggest to remove a possibility of "digging out chunks of sand" because it does not affect gameplay that much. Or am I wrong?

It's quite helpful, at least with earth. And it adds a huge factor in dynamic landscape changing, I don't think it should go.
Parent - By AlteredARMOR [ua] Date 2010-02-09 10:32 Edited 2010-02-09 11:17
I said nothing about earth. We should definitely have earth chunks (I will model them at a later time).

Well, it was never said, that physics in land of clonk are identical to these in our world. I personally like idea of having sand and ash chunks.

This would be the same problem with beton. I think the material should be packed into a container (bag, barrel?) to handle it as an collectible object.

Parent - By AlteredARMOR [ua] Date 2010-02-09 20:03
Yep, you've got my point. I also thought about the bag of sand but does it realy worth it?

Parent - By Ringwaul [ca] Date 2010-02-14 07:02
Well, my loop-hole for gunpowder was that it is carried in a cloth pouch, but that's easy to explain because it is a processed material.

However, I just got an interesting idea. Maybe sand/ashes simply caan not be dug away; rather, it is tossed into the air above-and-behind the clonk, but loses no pixels of material by doing so. Could the engine coders implement a material type like this? :D

Added flints. It is not a material actually, but since it is extracted from the earth it should also have some variety

Weren't we replacing them?
I might play around with the material later on.
Parent - By AlteredARMOR [ua] Date 2010-02-09 20:02 Edited 2010-02-09 20:20
Better don't :-). I kinda like it that way.
About flint necessity I totally agree with Clonkonaut

EDIT: Well, of course you are free to help.

Hmm, I don't like the flints. I would prefer a kind of lava texture better. Dark with glowing red cracks in it, or something like that.

Added snow balls. Could not think of better shape than a traditional spherical one. The snow itself may look a bit dirty but I thought that this way it will fit the material texture better (or maybe I just forgot which texture is used for snow?..)

Hm :/
Slightly more emit would look nicer, it's to dark in the bottom compared to the top, maybe make the differences smaller like that.

Finished modelling iron ore. I took hematite (Fe2O3) for its red color that matches this texture quite good (comparing to magnetite (Fe3O4) which would look mostly like on ordinary rock).

Coal chunks, mabye make them a little pitted, if u ever actually seen coal, (not a picture), they look to be pitted some

Sulphur, wat effect makes them translucent? though if messin with that aspet dont work, y not try usin a slightly bolder/darker yellow, (yes i think there is a difference between bold and bright).

Flint, im not sure but someone said that lava cracks should be added to them, wouldnt that be for the T-flints/super flint/terra flints?

Rock chunks, look good, though mabye round the edges?  (when u like to make piles out of them for fun when ur younger, u kinda remember the general texture/shape of rocks.

All in all though, good work, and keep it up.

Added loam. It is always hard to model something that does not exist. Nevertheless I've tried to make it look like clay (with a small mixture of sand). So here it is.
